Down Squash Blossom Road by Janet Chester BlyDown Squash Blossom Road BOOK BLURB:

What Secret Lies Down Squash Blossom Road?

Cowgirl Reba Cahill’s schedule is full. Save the family ranch. Free her mom from a mental institute. Solve a murder and kidnapping. Evade a stalker. Can she also squeeze in romance?

Reba Cahill thought she could focus on the duties of their Idaho ranch, along with her widowed grandmother. But a crippled Champ Runcie returns to Road’s End in a wheelchair and seeks revenge for the accident that put him there. He blames Reba’s horse. Meanwhile, a brief note from her estranged mom forces her and Grandma Pearl back on the road: I can leave now. Come get me. Love, Mom

When they arrive in Reno, her mother issues a demand and refuses to return to Idaho. They head west instead. In California, Reba’s Greek friend Ginny’s marriage is on the rocks. The family business is threatened. And squabbles turn deadly.

Reba digs deep to find the courage to forge a relationship with her mom and escape a crazed man’s obsession. She also hopes for a future with a horse trainer who offers her a new horse to replace the one she lost in the accident. But how about that pretty woman’s photo hanging on his wall?

Down Squash Blossom Road Book Reviews:

The distinguished honor of posting the first official book review on Amazon goes to Edward Arrington a.k.a. Grandaddy A.:

“Another entertaining read from Janet Chester Bly. If possible, this book had even more twists and turns than the first. (Reba’s trails) are more crooked than a snake’s back … The story is full of suspense, drama, mystery, mayhem, and action … you don’t know what is waiting around the next turn of a page.” Grandaddy A., 5 Stars

“As much as I loved “Wind In The Wires“, I have to say I loved “Down Squash Blossom Road even more. The story line kept me sitting on the edge of my seat … the characters are believable, real and very active … The twists and turns will keep you not wanting to stop reading … can’t wait for Reba’s next adventures in book #3.” Connie Sue Larson, 5 Stars

“…a wild Western ride full of even more secrets and lies and … the same bad guy who just won’t quit … The writing is extremely crisp, and the story races along to a sweet ending … by the end of the story, you will feel like you really know these people.” The main characters are fully dimensional and unique enough that you won’t really need the guide after all.” Ruthie Jones, 5 Stars Reading By Moonlight blog

The story sounds good! As for the mental health arena, that always needs more attention and work to be done. We need more information out there and more awareness. As for favorite genre – I adore all things historical.

Susan: Thanks much for your comments. You’re our first entry in the Book Giveaway drawing!

  2. Katie September 7, 2016 at 5:09 pm #

I believe more research needs be done to determine the causes of mental illnesses, and education and awareness to prevent it. I’m sure a lot of it is caused by the food and lifestyle choices we have been making, sometimes believing that we are doing what is best.

My favorite genre is historical fiction. One of my very favorite authors, besides you and your husband Stephen is Laurine Snelling. I love her series on the Red River Valley that chronicles Ingeborg Bjorkland’s life and her family. The last one I read was A Heart for Home. One of my all time favorite books is by Stephen Bly. I love The Long Trail Home. It reminds me that all of us fall short of God’s glory until we find our long trail home. When I get a chance, I read it again and again.

Anna: I enjoy historical fiction too! Thanks so much for your kind words about Stephen’s books. His The Long Trail Home was also a Christy Award winner! Lauraine Snelling is also a favorite of mine (as well as a wonderful friend!) Blessings to you!

Enjoyed reading about you Janet. I’m always interested in learning more about authors although I must confess I haven’t read any of your books – yet! I must do so. Some how I missed that your husband passed away. I’ve known of his books for years and even met him once on a CBA convention. I visited Idaho once and loved it there so I can see why you love living there.

Betty: Thanks much for your note. Interesting that you met Stephen at a CBA convention! Yes, Idaho is a great place to live, if you like a slower and cheaper lifestyle and beautiful scenery everywhere!

  6. Tammy Horton September 17, 2016 at 9:32 am #

I truly love Western Historical fiction as well as a good mystery. In a mystery, the element that keeps me reading to the end is when the author doesn’t give away too much information early and keeps me guessing. For western fiction it is a combination of scenic descriptions so I can vividly visualize the setting and a great sense of adventure combined with humor – something your husband was a master at – miss him so much. I have recently been reading the Hugh de Singleton mysteries by Melvin Starr – wonderful series of books, can’t wait for the 9th book to come out this fall. Blessings to you as you bless us with your writing.

    • Janet Chester Bly September 17, 2016 at 9:04 pm #

Greetings, Tammy: Appreciate your comments! Thank you for your kind words about Stephen and his style of writing. I miss him like crazy too. Hey, I hadn’t heard before about author Melvin Starr. Thanks for the recommend! Blessings back to you!
