View From the Barn – Cowboy Christmas Poetry

Christmas barnVIEW FROM THE BARN, Cowboy Christmas Poem by Stephen Bly

I’m a peaceful man by nature, hopin’ all things settle down. Never one to pitch a fit, play the fool, or act the clown. I like a muffler on my tractor, and horses that seldom buck; children that behave themselves and chickens that don’t cluck. I like a woman with a soft voice and the TV set turned low. I’m fond of music that relaxes and a waltz that moves quite slow.

Cowboy Christmas Favorite Things

I like a pickup that runs quiet even when a load it tows, and evergreens scattered across the hills, especially when it snows. So, when a cowboy Christmas rolls around again, I reckon you can guess. I like to stop and ponder it and not get caught up in the mess. It seems like such a tranquil scene with the baby in the manger. He’s surrounded by all them animals, yet completely out of danger.

I’ve been in a barn on a cold winter night and listened to ponies chew hay. And gazed out on a star lit field and searched for the words to say. I want to tell the Lord how grateful I am that He chose to send his Son. And leave Him here in this noisy world until that battle was won.

Christmas barnSome Quiet Time

Ever’ year I find me some quiet time, Jist to sit still and reflect. I review the story of the infant’s birth and contemplate its affect. Them angels said he was bringin’ peace to all folks of good will. I reckon things ain’t changed that much, ’cause He’s doin’ the same thing still. So my prayer for you, trail partners, is for the best He has to give. Have a season of peace and quiet rest and the courage to really live.

Find joy in all the small things and delight in those you love. Forgiveness and acceptance come straight down from above.

The Important Thing

It’s tough for folks to remember this, while jammed in crowded malls. So, I also pray you’ll have the time to hike out to the stalls. Contemplate God’s goodness while chewin’ on a blade of hay. And enjoy the peace He promised you on that very first Christmas day.
